“My sanity is fine” – Antonio Brown

Wide receiver Antonio Brown insisted his recent departure from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was more desired by the team and its former head coach Bruce Arians than by himself.

The veteran found himself in the limelight when he walked off the field – shirtless – in the middle of the Jan. 2 game against the New York Jets. Released four days later, he said Arians wanted to force him to play despite an ankle injury. Known for his many escapades off the field, Brown defended himself during the podcast “I Am Athlete”, claiming to be in good psychological condition.

“Why, every time something bad happens, an individual reacts by saying, ‘Ah, he’s crazy, there’s something wrong with his sanity’? There’s nothing wrong with my mental health. Someone asked me to get the hell out of here,” he explained, referring in passing to his interaction with Arians.

“The head coach of a winning Super Bowl team told a guy at the club who was playing injured to go away,” he insisted.

Brown may have gained some credibility this week as his ex-driver was embroiled in another controversy with a player on the team. Sure enough, Arians was fined $50,000 for slamming safety Andrew Adams to the helmet during Sunday’s playoff game against the Philadelphia Eagles. The coach chose to contest the NFL’s sanction, specifying that he wanted to prevent his protege from taking a penalty by removing a footballer from a pile.

The Buccaneers continue their playoff run Sunday in Tampa against the Los Angeles Rams.
