The Denver Nuggets acquired veteran Bryn Forbes from San Antonio on Wednesday as part of a deal between three teams, including Boston.
The Nuggets sent the injured Bol Bol and PJ Dozier to Boston and the Spurs acquired Juancho Hernangomez from the Celtics.
The Spurs also received a future second-round pick from the Nuggets. The deal was first reported by ESPN.
For the Nuggets, the trade gives them a solid perimeter shooter in Forbes and the chance to add another player. The team is believed to be interested in veteran DeMarcus Cousins to provide variants alongside MVP Nikola Jokic as they seek to reach the postseason.
For Boston, the trade means it’s close to falling below the luxury-tax mark this season.
The Nuggets are looking for other players this season, missing top-contract stars Jamal Murray (knee) and Michael Porter Jr. (back) due to injuries. Forbes has made 41.7% of his 3-pointers this season and is averaging 9.1 points.
Forbes has been a constant threat his entire career. He ranks third in 3-point shooting percentage over the past four seasons among players with 1,000 or more attempts, trailing only Joe Harris and Seth Curry.
Forbes, 28, has appeared in 37 postseason games, including 20 last season with the Milwaukee Bucks en route to the title.
The Celtics get the flexibility, but the players are pretty much only on paper with the team. Bol was recently sent to Detroit as part of a trade that was rescinded after the forward was not medically cleared. Denver announced Tuesday that Bol had surgery on his right foot and is out indefinitely.
Dozier is out tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee this season. Dozier has appeared in 97 games with the Nuggets over the past three seasons, averaging 6.7 points.
Hernangomez has played 18 games for the Celtics this season. The Spanish forward was selected by Denver in the 2016 Draft.
