The Italian Court of Cassation on Wednesday confirmed the nine-year prison term imposed on Brazilian footballer Robinho for his role in a gang rape.

The judges in Rome found the appeal that the footballer had lodged inadmissible. His conviction is therefore final. “A total of fifteen Italian magistrates have ruled that the allegations are sufficiently proven. It is our wish that Brazil will carry out the sentence,” said the victim’s lawyer, Jacopo Gnocchi. According to Italian media, Robinho is currently in Brazil.
The facts date back to January 2013, when Robinho was a striker for AC Milan. He is then alleged to have participated in a gang rape of a 22-year-old Albanian woman in a nightclub in Milan. Robinho was convicted of the offenses for the first time in 2017 and then appealed a second time in December 2020. Robinho was already acquitted of rape in 2009 when he played football for Manchester City. (belga)
