The sanction that the DNC will impose is up to BGN 5,000, and the road agency is still checking for violations
The companies operating on the route of the Europa highway in the section between the Kalotina and Dragoman border checkpoints will be fined, the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works announced. The executor of the project is “Strabag BPA” – a union of “Strabag” EAD, “Strabag Magazine – Poland” and “Bitumina GmbH-Bulgaria”.
The relevant Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Grozdan Karadzhov ordered an inspection after receiving dozens of signals from citizens about the ugly way in which the traffic on the section is organized. A team of the Directorate for National Construction Control (DNCC) has identified “serious omissions along the entire route”, according to the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works. Last week, during a discussion on road projects, Karadjov even released a video of the route, which showed scandalous “landscapes” of the highway. The Deputy Prime Minister’s comment was: “They are building like a bashibozuk, this terror must end.”
Restrictive signs are missing in most of the road, the light signaling is insufficient (there is only one at the beginning and the end of the route). “And the signposts are insufficient. It was found that there are no signs for entry or exit to existing roads along the route. In some places road signs are placed on the ground, leaning on a stand, signposts and signs are dirty and temporary markings are poor condition “, the inspectors of the National Security Council found.
Because of all this, the contractors will be sanctioned by the construction control. However, the fine is symbolic – by law it can be in the range of 1000 – 5000 levs.
The Road Infrastructure Agency has also launched an inspection, which has not yet been completed. The results are expected later this week.
The construction of the section Kalotina – Dragoman border checkpoint is 14.5 km long and costs 165 million levs. The funds are from the EU and the Bulgarian budget.
