The three boys who severely mistreated André Emonds (73) from Boekel on New Year’s Eve have come forward. André’s family is still angry, but also relieved that the perpetrators are known. And especially that André is improving. Daughter Suze said on Tuesday: “My father has returned to work and is recovering well from his injuries.”
Near Suze’s parental home, fireworks were set off during New Year’s Eve. André said something about it, which brought him to a series of striking blows and kicks.

Now, almost three weeks later, Suze says: “Everything is healing nicely. The injuries to his face, the molars and other teeth in his mouth, the bruised ribs, the bruises. But what happened to him is and remains annoying, even if he would have done the same next time.”
She continues: “My father is a very strong, tough man. He is 73, but you wouldn’t give that to him. When he was able to do so, he immediately made a statement to the police. He is also back at work. started his earth-moving business.”

“What I do find very bad: the fear that especially struck my mother. She got so scared. Cameras must be installed and an alarm system must be installed. Isn’t that sad that you have to decide this at their age, my mother is 69?”
And that only because some young people found it necessary that evening to make a mess. The Emonds family had just returned from a skiing holiday in Austria, where the parents’ golden wedding was being celebrated. The fireworks that later sounded nearby were not intended as a congratulation.
They looked like bombs, causing Emonds’ deer to panic. André went to get a story, after which fireworks were thrown near him. The situation escalated just after midnight, after he complained again about loud bangs. He grabbed one of the youths by the collar and that angered the other boys.
André was kicked and beaten. Neighbors across the street prevented worse and brought him home.

The Emonds family shared the grief on social media and the response was overwhelming. “My parents received twenty bunches of flowers and gifts and cards. So much love. From all over the country. Really not normal, so beautiful, so heartwarming. My parents are very grateful for it. This is very much appreciated.” Suze adds: “We have also received other reactions. From people who know what to do with the perpetrators. And we are not waiting for that.”
“We hoped that the perpetrators would be caught quickly. My father has described some of them very well. Unfortunately, we haven’t heard much from the police in recent weeks. Until last week, when we heard that a first perpetrator had come forward. That was about time. Some of them were already being talked about on social media about their names being mentioned in schools. And just today we were told that perpetrators two and three have turned themselves in. That is good news and hopefully their parents will also take a look at themselves.”
