A 19-year-old Hispanic woman was shot to death inside the family home, in front of her relatives, and so far the motive for the events is unknown.
The incident took place last Thursday, January 13, 2022 in the 200 block of West Glenwood Avenue after 9:45 p.m.
Apparently the young woman was at home celebrating her birthday and waiting to go into her work shift later that night when the shots erupted.
“At the moment we heard shots. We went to the front window to see what was going on with the neighbor and he told us that the granddaughter was shot. And at the moment a lot of police came and it is not known what happened there,” said the neighbor of the affected family, a lady who has lived in that neighborhood of Philadelphia for 15 years and to date has assured that “she had never experienced anything like this. ‘.
Those affected have moved from the structure since the deadly event, and their whereabouts are unknown. For security reasons they were not identified, but the victim was named Ramonita Justino. The victim’s cousin was also injured in the incident, but is recovering from his injuries.
“She was a good girl. She greeted one. It’s sad, because she is a 19-year-old girl and that this has happened to her. This is getting worse every day. To tell you the truth, I am afraid, since that happened, I am afraid to go down at a certain time and think that someone is going to do the same thing to me, it is scary,” said the neighbor.
Police said they are investigating the incident and have yet to identify a suspect.
So far in 2022, 22 homicides have been registered in Philadelphia, which represents an increase of 5% from the previous year.
“This is very bad yes, that’s why I’m afraid to go out. I go out and come back quickly, because things are bad here,” said José Cruz, a resident of Philadelphia.
