The national team lost today January 16, 2022 to Sade Japoma in Douala (Cameroon) 1-0 against an excellent team from Equatorial Guinea.
The Algerian national team’s victory counters stopped today in Duala during the second group E meeting counting for the 2021 African Cup of Nations (CAN).
Riad Mahrez’s teammates gave a good performance despite the unexpected defeat. The Fenneces missed more than five goalscoring chances; but luck and lack of precision prevented the greens from realizing these chances against a well-organized Guinean defense.
The first period was largely dominated by the foals of Djamel Belmadi, without however concretizing this domination.
In the second half, the two teams gave each other a real battle, which turned to the benefit of the Guineans who scored the only goal of the game in the 70th minute by Stephen Orozco Fernandez. Following this goal, the Algerians threw all their forces in the hope of coming back to the score, but the Guineans resisted despite several clear chances created by teammates Mahrez.
This defeat mortgages the chances of the greens to qualify for the next round. Thus, the Fennecs are condemned to beat the Ivory Coast in the next and last match of group E, which will be played at the same stadium, on January 20th.
