COVID-19 Outlook Improves in New York – NBC New York

COVID cases and hospitalizations continue to improve rapidly in New York, Gov. Kathy Hochul said Sunday, with positivity rates declining.

“The forecast for COVID-19 is getting better,” Hochul said during a briefing on the winter storm moving upstate. “Overall, the outlook for COVID is much brighter than it has been before.”

While official daily numbers were not yet available at her noon briefing, the governor said more than 400,000 tests were administered on Saturday and the positivity rate was about 13%. Just a week ago, in a similar number of tests, the positivity rate was nearly 20%.

Indicators are improving across the board in New York City, he said, but not as fast upstate. Deaths, the latest lagging indicator for COVID, also remain high.

This week alone, more than 1,000 people have died of COVID in the state.
