Faced with a significant drop in blood stocks in Belgium, which is beginning to be critical, the Red Cross has launched an appeal for blood donation, in order to attract new blood donors and mobilize the population for this cause.
Red Cross blood donation rooms are deserted by blood donors, and more than 2,000 bags of blood are now missing from stock. The situation is worrying, says the Red Cross, which is launching a new appeal for donations.
This lack of blood donations is the direct consequence of the health crisis. Indeed, blood donors think much less about blood donation during this period and health measures accentuate this drop in donations.
Following the new Codeco measures which imposed teleworking, there are also many companies which have canceled their appointments and even in those still organized, there are far fewer people, given that nearly 80% of workers are telecommuting.
Despite this, the Red Cross must manage to bring in blood donors, because many patients need blood transfusions to live or cope with their pathology. It is therefore urgent that donors get involved.
