JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – Dorna Sports boss Carmelo Ezpeleta says he can cancel MotoGP races in a country if quarantine is mandatory.

Indonesia, through the Mandalika Circuit, will host the world’s most prestigious motorcycle racing event, MotoGP 2022.

The Mandalika Circuit is scheduled to host a pre-season test on 11-13 February, and then the second MotoGP race series on 18-20 March.

Tickets for the MotoGP race have already gone on sale and are getting high enthusiasm from fans.

However, it could be that the MotoGP race schedule is broken, if the quarantine provisions for foreigners who come from outside to Indonesia are implemented.

Race cancellations in the host country can occur if there is a quarantine obligation from the host country in MotoGP 2022.

This was revealed by MotoGP boss, who is also CEO of Dorna Sports, Carmelo Ezpeleta responding to Novak Djokovic’s drama at the Australian Open.

“If you tell us that we have to quarantine for 14 days then the answer is clear. In this case we will not go there,” explained Carmelo Ezpeleta quoted from FPAL.

He gave an example that last year the Texas MotoGP could run smoothly without having to be quarantined but enough with a bubble system and showing the completeness of vaccination documents.

“For the rest, they can ask us to bring vaccination certifications or documentation like we did last year.”
