According to current data, wind gusts in the west and northwest will increase to 18-23 meters per second on Monday, and up to 28 meters per second on the coast.
The wind will be slower this weekend – its maximum speed will drop to 12-17 meters per second on a gusting Saturday afternoon, a slow wind is expected on Sunday night, but the southwest wind will start to intensify on Sunday.
The gusty wind will continue during the day. Such winds can cause minor damage by breaking individual trees, tree branches and damaging lightweight structures, as well as raising water levels along the south coast of the bay.
The air temperature will be from -2 degrees in the east of the country to +4 degrees on the coast of Kurzeme, the weather will be colder at night on Sunday.
On Sunday night, the weather will be determined by the northern edge of the anticyclone – a high-pressure branch will cross the area at night. A slow to moderate north-westerly, westerly wind will blow from the south-west in the second half of the night, and will gradually begin to intensify, reaching 15-16 m / s in gusts on the sea shore in the evening.
At night it will be clear for a while, so the air temperature may drop to -3, -7 degrees, but during the day the sky will be covered with a thick cloud cover, and from the west a large area of precipitation will cross Latvia – in the west rain, wet snow, in the central and eastern parts of the country. , the thickness of the snow cover will increase by a few centimeters. Roads will be slippery on some sections. The air temperature during the light hours of the day will stay around the -1, +4 degree mark.
According to the forecasts of the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center, in general, several precipitation zones will cross Latvia in the coming days, as a result of which the thickness of the snow cover in the east of the country will increase by a few centimeters.
In the first half of next week, a new cyclone will approach from the north – the wind will pick up again and the precipitation will increase. The wind will gradually subside on Tuesday evening.
As the cyclone moves from north to south, a slightly colder air mass will reach Latvia, so the air temperature will remain within +3, -4 degrees both on Monday and Tuesday.
In the second half of the week, according to current forecasts, a new cyclone will approach from the north, which will bring less rainfall, cooler weather, and a gusting, but weaker, wind than before.
Icing will often form on the roads.
