The condition of the feet can give an indication of high cholesterol levels.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — High cholesterol levels are often not realized by the sufferer. One way to find this cholesterol problem early is to look for signs in the foot area.
It should be understood that cholesterol is transported in the blood by two different types of lipoproteins, namely: low density lipoprotein (LDL) and high density lipoprotein (HDL). HDL is often referred to as good cholesterol, while LDL is referred to as bad cholesterol.
LDL cholesterol is known as bad cholesterol because it can trigger the buildup of plaque in the arteries. As a result, the arterial cavity for blood flow becomes narrower.
One of the effects of this condition is peripheral artery disease or peripheral arterial disease (PAD). When PAD occurs, there are several recognizable signs on the skin, some of which are dry and itchy skin.
“People with PAD may experience one or more changes in the skin on the feet, ankles, and soles of the feet,” explains the Midwest Institute for Non Surgical Therapy. Express, Friday (14/1/2022).
These skin changes in the foot area are generally mild at the onset of PAD. In addition to dryness and itching, another change to look out for is a cold feeling when the skin on the foot area is touched.
