Marian Vanghelie, her brother Paul and several officials from the City Hall of Sector 5 were detained for 24 hours, in the corruption case investigated by DNA.
The former mayor is still at the DNA headquarters, and will be transported to police custody.
Among those detained are Leonard Petre, former director of Economat Sector 5 and Marian Lupașcu, director of Urban Planning and Sanitation Sector 5.
Tomorrow morning, Vaghelie and the rest of the group will be brought before the magistrates, with a proposal for pre-trial detention for 30 days.
We remind you that Vanghelie was investigated by DNA together with 22 other suspects, officials or directors in the City Hall of sector 5, being accused, among others, of forming an organized criminal group. According to prosecutors, the group was allegedly controlled by the former mayor of Sector Five, now a local councilor.
Prosecutors accuse Vanghelie and City Hall officials in Sector 5 of making illegal purchases, overvalued goods, even from companies controlled by the former mayor or officials. Prosecutors claim that the damage amounted to over 256 million lei and that some goods were purchased in amounts 31 times higher than the price charged by the original supplier. For example, SC Economat sector 5 SRL purchased a plastic stapler with the price of 81.6 lei, given that the initial price was 2.59 lei).
According to prosecutors, in the period 2016-2019, the suspect Vanghelie Marian Daniel allegedly demanded from a businessman a percentage of 50% of the profit that his company was going to make from the sale of overvalued goods to S.C. Economat sector 5 S.R.L. and would have received the total amount of 80,463,800 lei, in order to exercise the influence that he hinted to have on the general manager, Petre Marian Leonard,
