Warning, spoilers. It is advisable to have seen the first episode of Falcon and the Winter Soldier before continuing to read this article.
Available since March 19 on Disney+, the first episode of Falcon and the Winter Soldier is an explosive introduction to narrate the adventures of Sam Wilson alias the Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes alias the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan).
As they each try to rebuild themselves after the tragic events that occurred in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, it seems that the two superheroes will unite to perpetuate the work of Steve Rogers alias Captain America (Chris Evans) and to honor his memory.
The last minutes of the first episode of the series show a disappointed Sam Wilson facing his television set as the authorities announce the advent of a new Captain America. The latter sports the shield that Steve had bequeathed to Sam, who then gave it to the authorities to put in a museum.
Who is the new Captain America?
This new Captain America, presented as the successor and savior of the nation dubbed by the government, is none other than John Walker, alias the US Agent, in the Marvel comics. It is about a former soldier who became a superman thanks to treatment from Power Broker.

He trains and takes on the identity of Super Patriot, who promotes his image as an ersatz Captain America throughout the United States by organizing patriotic and community rallies.
Super Patriot will often challenge Captain America to a duel until assuming his identity when Steve is forced to give up his position. Overtrained, Super Patriot is trapped by the Nazis and the Red Skull militia, which he manages to fight.
Steve Rogers gets his Captain America costume back and the authorities make John Walker look dead. Except that John Walker takes on a new identity, that of the US Agent and becomes an employee of the Superhuman Affairs Commission.

There is no doubt that the John Walker aka US Agent from Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be different from the character in the comics, but the writers must have drawn some elements from the comics to feed the plot.
Will this new Captain America remain in the pay of politicians or will he finally team up with Sam and Bucky? Who will be the real successor to Steve Rogers between Sam, Bucky and this new patriotic banner manipulated by the authorities?
John Walker alias the US Agent, who dons a new Captain America costume, is played by Wyatt Russell, a former American professional ice hockey player now an actor. He is also the son of Kurt Russell, already present in the MCU in the skin of Ego, the father of Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), in Guardians of the Galaxy vol.2.
