The president of the Girondins de Bordeaux, Gérard Lopez, has confirmed that the Aquitaine club will separate from Laurent Koscielny during this winter transfer window.
The FCGB boss formalized the departure of the French central defender, in an interview with the regional daily South West. “It is a decision taken for reasons of strategic orientation. We would like a second half of the season with a slightly different dynamic, so with changes, but also preparing for next season. So increase the responsibilities of other players. It’s not for economic reasons since he has a contract, it won’t earn us anything. It will be done in good intelligence, with respect for the player and his contract (…) We are not attacking the player or the person. But it is confirmed that Laurent will not finish the season with us and that he will leave the club in January. »
Landed in the summer of 2019 on the side of Matmut Atlantique, the 36-year-old footballer is under contract until next June with the Aquitaine club, plus two additional years as an option. Since the start of the 2021-2022 season, the former Arsenal player has played 11 Ligue 1 games.
