Disappointment at BVB! Bochum wins a point in a heated district derby
–
Bochum – Borussia Dortmund dropped important points in the championship race with promoted VfL Bochum! In an intense game, there was a 1:1 (1:0) draw at the end.

Julian Brandt saved the black and yellow from the next Bundesliga defeat. With his goal in the 85th minute, the national player averted the threat of bankruptcy for the second-placed team in the competitive Revierderby with coach Thomas Reis’ team.
In the first competitive game between the two clubs in over eleven years, Sebastian Polter (40th penalty kick) put Bochum in the lead in front of 13,799 spectators at the Vonovia Ruhrstadion.
A week after the 2: 3 in the hard-fought Bundesliga summit against Munich, BVB offered a committed performance, but missed chances every minute. This increased the gap between Borussia and Bayern to six points.

Dortmund, coached by assistant coach Alexander Zickler, got off to a better start. But the many attempts to overcome Bochum’s mostly solid defense this season with long balls to striker Erling Haaland were unsuccessful.
The home side, enthusiastically cheered on by their fans, caused a big fight for BVB in the build-up game.

Only after a tricky initial phase did the guests find their way into the game better and came close to taking the early lead in two situations.
At first, Haaland and Marco Reus (16th) could not use a mistake made by VfL keeper Manuel Riemann. Only two minutes later, Jude Bellingham failed in a promising position by the brilliantly reacting Bochum goalkeeper.
With these two chances, the pressure on Dortmund increased. After a remarkable solo, Bellingham freed attacker Haaland, but the Norwegian couldn’t beat Riemann with a shot from 14 meters.

Offensive actions by the hosts remained the exception in this phase. Only a long-range shot by Christopher Antwi-Adjei (29th), which BVB keeper Gregor Kobel parried, was a goal threat.
But a penalty gave the promoted surprisingly the break lead.
After Kobel fouled Antwi-Adjei, referee Matthias Jöllenbeck rightly awarded a penalty. Polter certainly converted this into a 1-0 lead for the Reis-Elf (40th).

Julian Brandt and Borussia Dortmund equalize shortly before the end
After the restart, the Rose-Elf increased the pressure. With a lot of luck and skill, VfL prevented the equalizer in this phase. So Maxim Leitsch cleared in dire need after a shot by Nico Schulz on the line (47th).
And Dortmund’s joy at Marius Wolf’s supposed 1-1 was short-lived because the referee disallowed the goal because Bellingham was offside and blocked Riemann’s view.
But the rush of the guests continued unabated. When another player from Bochum, Danilo Soares (63rd), saved the already beaten Riemann on the line, assistant coach Zickler reacted and brought on two more offensive players, Thorgan Hazard and Brandt.
This measure paid off. After a cross from Haaland, Brandt volleyed the ball into the net to make it 1-1 (85′). It should stay that way.
