Despite the pandemic, the Berlin Film Festival will take place in person

The Berlin Film Festival will take place next month on Wednesday, January 12, according to the festival’s organizers, despite the fact that the number of Covid-19 cases in Germany, and especially in its capital, has increased.

“We are aware of the challenges posed by the unpredictable nature of the pandemic,” the organizers said in a statement that the festival would adhere strictly to the rules imposed by the Covid-19 crisis.

Only people who have been completely vaccinated against Covid-19 or have recently contracted Covid-19 will be allowed to stay at the festival venues.

Everyone who participates in the festival will have to take quick tests of Covid-19 and wear masks.

Cinemas will be able to accommodate 50% of the maximum number of visitors, but all balls and receptions, which are usually an important part of the festival, will be canceled.

The opening is scheduled for February 10, but the awards will be presented on February 16, slightly earlier than originally planned.

The festival will be opened with the film “Peter von Kant” by the French director François Ozon. This work is a free interpretation of Rainer Werner Fasbinder’s tape “Die bitteren Tränen der Petra von Kant” (“Peter von Kant’s Bitter Tears”).
