Koen Baetens, Andy Peelman’s character in Real stories: the neighborhood police, died tonight. During a VIPS episode with Véronique De Kock, the corps tries to save the former Miss Belgium from the clutches of a kidnapper, but it ends fatally. The kidnapper suddenly fires a shot, after which Koen heroically catches the bullet and dies.

With his death, Peelman’s role in the VTM series comes to an end after seven years and fourteen seasons. In recent years, he has become one of the trendsetters in the program, but at the end of last year the actor announced his retirement. “I’m extremely grateful for the opportunities that the program has given me, but it’s time to explore other paths,” he said at the time.
