V The capital of the Philippines, Manila, people who have not been vaccinated against the coronavirus are no longer allowed to travel by public transport, DPA reported, citing the Ministry of Transport. The decision comes amid a sharp rise in coronavirus infections, BTA reported.
The new measure came into force in the capital and the surrounding metropolitan area with a population of about 13 million people.
It will continue to operate as long as the district is below the third level of the country’s five-level alarm system. To get a ticket for public transport, residents will have to
present a vaccination certificate and an identity document.
An exception is made only for people whose health condition does not allow them to be vaccinated.
President Rodrigo Duterte recently ordered
to arrest all unvaccinated citizens who leave their homes,
without having substantial reasons.
According to data from yesterday, about 53 million people were vaccinated in the Philippines, which is equivalent to more than 48 percent of the country’s 110 million population. More than 3 million infections have been reported since the start of the pandemic, with health authorities reporting 28,000 new coronavirus infections yesterday. The death toll from the disease is 52,511.
