In the middle of the residential area, on the roof of the apartment building at Büelweg 2, Swisscom is planning a mobile phone antenna.

Another antenna in Wohlen? Some people will ask themselves that. Because only in September did the mobile phone provider Swisscom set up two antennas in Wohlen. One of them is on Bremgarterstrasse, at the height of the Denner behind the Meier tire shop. According to information from the Swisscom media spokeswoman, this antenna is used as a replacement location for another one that is no longer in use.
The other will feature prominently in Anglikon. Namely on the chimney of the former Schärer textile dye works. The chimney was dilapidated and needed repairs. According to information from the owner of the property, Frank Schärer, the chimney will not only be renovated, but also provided with a stork’s nest. This should enable the animals to nest at dizzy heights. Schärer knows that the storks’ plans have always failed so far. These two antennas cover the common mobile radio technologies, i.e. 3G, 4G and 5G.
Another antenna is now to be installed at Büelweg 2, on the roof of the apartment building. The planning application can be viewed at the municipal administration until February 7th.
Muri specifies the technology used in the planning application
The property is located in residential zone 3. The planning application is accompanied by an investigation that shows that network coverage in the north-eastern area around Büelweg was previously too low. Swisscom spokeswoman Sabrina Hubacher explains this as follows: “We have to constantly modernize and expand our network because our customers are transmitting more and more data via the mobile network: data traffic has increased by a factor of 200 in ten years. There are three times as many devices online today as there were in 2010.”
The new antenna should ensure that network coverage improves again. It will also cover 3G, 4G and 5G. However, the technology is not specified in the planning application. Swisscom is not obliged to publish this. This is probably also the reason why the two planning applications for the two antennas that have already been built could be implemented without objections.
Muri is one of the first communities in the region that wants to specify the technology used in planning applications for mobile phone antennas in the future. The Oberfreiämter municipality sees this as a contribution to transparency. The municipality of Wohlen, on the other hand, does not note the technology used in the planning application. If you take the time to look at the documents at the building administration, you will get the necessary information there.
