JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir revealed that Garuda Indonesia’s condition had decreased due to the number of aircraft operating.
Erick Thohir said previously that the total aircraft owned by Garuda Indonesia reached more than 200 units.
However, due to various problems that occur at the state-owned airline, currently there are 142 Garuda Indonesia aircraft remaining.
Ironically, from that number, said Erick Thohir, only 35 units can fly. While the rest grounded and some are held by leasing.
“The total number of previous planes was more than 200 if I’m not mistaken. Then due to various problems, currently there are only 142 planes left. Today there are 35 planes left. While the rest grounded and held leasing,” said Erick Thohir to Kompas TV in Jakarta on Tuesday (11/1/2022).

Of the hundreds of planes that cannot fly, some of them cannot be returned because they are bound by contracts.
Erick is of the view that the problems that entangle Garuda Indonesia, if not resolved, will disrupt the national aviation ecosystem.
“If this is not resolved the national aviation ecosystem can be dangerous. In the end, it will also burden consumers,” he said.
