Alicia Joe on Youtube: Stuttgart Youtuber is picking up gender – Stuttgart

Youtuberin names disadvantages of gender

Do articles and pronouns have to be countered? Should gender-neutral terms such as “the guest” or “the person” also be adapted? So does it mean “the guest” and “the person”? And what about Germanized words from English? Will it be called the follower in the future? The sobering conclusion of the Youtuberin is: “Once you have dealt with such fundamental questions, you will quickly notice that people in podcasts or on television are gendering extremely inconsistently – probably because it is too complicated for them.”

But Joe also has suggestions for solutions. “For me, the simplest solution to this dilemma would be to delete all movements from the German language,” suggests the Kessel influencer. That would mean, for example, using male words such as “teacher” for female teachers in the future – and deleting the word “teacher”. Or the other way around, a man would not be called a “widower” but “a male widow”. There is always only one form for both sexes.

Alicia Joe: That way language could be fairer

The thought behind it: “If women and other people would also call themselves pupils, students or teachers, this word would no more be considered masculine than the word human”. Distinctions should – where they are important – be made with adjectives. For example, whether one is talking about a male or a female corpse. “Of course, it would take a certain amount of time to get used to such a change,” says the Stuttgart resident.
