The Swedish carmaker Volvo is not going to leave the classic sedans and station wagons yet. The current S and V models will receive new generations. Håkan Samuelsson, CEO of Autocar, told British magazine.

“Yes, they will be replaced by something that will be even more attractive to customers. We need lower cars with conventional body styles, but maybe a little less angular. These lower cars will be an addition to our SUVs, “Samuelsson said.

“Cars will be less boxy in the future because we need lower air resistance. (…) We talk a lot about the range of electric cars, but I think we will focus more on energy efficiency, and air resistance plays a key role in that, ”he continued.

This statement contradicts an elder Samuelsson made last year for the same magazine. He said at the time that the brand would strengthen its SUV offering at the expense of sedans and station wagons. It would also make economic sense – the brand’s best-selling model is the XC60 SUV, which sold 162,600 units in the first three quarters of last year, more than the S60, V60, S90 and V90 combined.

The successors of today’s “esek” and “véček” may not have such designations, but will switch to model names. The carmaker confirmed such a change last summer. What we also know is that Samuelsson will leave his post in March this year and be replaced by Jim Rowan, the former CEO of Dyson Group.
