He made a statement referring to the forecast of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington.
“The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation predicts that over 50% of the population in the European Region will be infected with Omicron in the next 6-8 weeks,” Kluge said.
According to him, now 50 out of 53 countries in Europe and Central Asia have recorded cases of the Omicron strain.
Kluge added that the new variant of the coronavirus is rapidly spreading and becoming dominant in Western Europe as well as in the Balkans.
