When the Euphoria series appeared on the HBO three years ago, it had a rather creepy start. At that time, the world admired other works: there was still talk of a controversial end to the Game of Thrones, the unexpected hit Chernobyl and the adaptation of the book classic Chapter XXII.
However, in the end, the audience also wrapped up Euphoria. Its creator, Sam Levinson, managed to create a work in eight episodes, where the dreamy to hallucinogenic visual was perfectly combined with the story of unrestrained teenagers and their drug and love adventures.
In addition, he caught Zendaya, the then rising star of the new Spider-Man, now a first-class celebrity and allegedly best earning actress last year.
Euphoria has become the new generation of trainspotting. She showed the magic and the curse of drug addiction on a group of high school students, completely unimpeded, in all the fleeting beauty. Unless you had a really wild youth, it was hard to identify with this group of teenagers – but at the same time it was impossible to take your eyes off the naturalistic spectacle.
At the same time, it became a kind of fashion manifesto for the Z generation. The bold combination of different types of clothing, from streetwear to modern design pieces, enchanted especially young audiences. The clothes that the characters wore during the series became a valuable commodity in online auctions and shops, and they sold out fast.
The makeup department was not left behind either. In Euphoria, it was not only a standard accessory, but also a means of expressing the characters’ personality or current mood. Euphoria’s eye shadows glow like neon lights, small gems shine on the eyebrows, and the protagonists’ faces are small works of art.
Their time has come again. At the turn of last year and the year before last, HBO GO broadcast two specials and a new series starts on January 10. Of course, Zendaya returns as Rue, who has fallen into drug use again, and her dear Jules, played by Hunter Schafer.
But in addition to drugs and violence, the situation is tangled in a love triangle in which Rue and Jules complete a new character, tattooed cute Elliot. Through him, Dominic Fike, a 26-year-old singer who has collaborated with Halsey, Justin Bieber and Paul McCartney, experiences the acting debut.
He praises himself that he didn’t even have to play much in the first role. “Elliot is just like me. He says and does the same things, ” quoted the singer Newsweek.
The author of the series, Sam Levinson, has an advantage over Euphoria: he can rely on his own experience. In his youth he flew in drugs for a long time, he has been clean since he was nineteen. “And I feel hope for that,” Zendaya told the pro British Vogue.
“Even though we’re going through a really dark period – and this line is especially heartbreaking to me with Rue – there is always a glimmer of hope because I know Rue is like him,” said the 25-year-old, who perfectly portrayed melancholy, rebellious, militant and surrendered. Rue – and received an Emmy for her performance.
Levinson also appreciated Zendaya. “This is a really brutal series. And I like Zenday best how she’s able to play all the dark scenes, and then as soon as I say the editing, she has fun behind the camera and bets the jokes, “he described.
But don’t worry about Euphoria in the second place. But a highly stylish, dark, violent and sexy spectacle? You can count on it.
