Tennis association ATP: ‘Damage to Djokovic in recent days, make rules clearer’

Tennis association ATP has made itself heard for the first time since Novak Djokovic set foot on Australian soil. The organization believes that the rules and communication regarding travel should be clearer.

Djokovic was forced into a detention hotel in Melbourne from Thursday to Sunday after the Australian government had rejected his medical exemption and subsequently revoked his visa.

The tennis player, who has not been vaccinated, went to court and was found to be in the right after a hearing on Monday. “All the events leading up to the hearing have been damaging on all fronts, including Novak’s well-being and his preparation for the Australian Open,” the ATP said in a statement.

“The ATP respects all the hardships Australian citizens have had to endure due to the coronavirus and the strict immigration policies that have been enacted.”
