Canada beat Spain and was crowned in the ATP Cup

Canada won the ATP Cup against Spain yesterday, succeeding Russia in the competition’s record, after the victories of Félix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov in their two singles matches.

Auger-Aliassime, 21 years old and 11th in the world, gave Canada the final point by beating Roberto Bautista (19th) 7-6 (7/3), 6-3. Shortly before, Shapovalov (14th) had done the same against Pablo Carreño (20th) 6-4, 6-3.

“If it weren’t for Denis for the last two days we wouldn’t be here. I would like to congratulate you. It was incredible, ”said Auger-Aliassime. “He had lost the last few times to Carreño and today he won in straight sets. It was not easy, but the way he was able to play he won well, so he has all the credit, “he added, recalling Carreño’s last three victories against Shapovalov.

Canada, who lost their first four games of the tournament, ended up leading their group ahead of the United Kingdom, Germany and the United States to qualify for the semi-finals, where they defeated Russia.
