Paulo Sousa was, this Monday, officially presented as the new coach of Flamengo. Filled with ambition, the former Poland coach left his first impressions of the club’s reality.
«The first impressions I had were of a squad with a lot of quality, which increasingly needs commitment. Quality does not express victories. We have one of the best squads in America, if not the best, but that’s not enough to win titles. We have to work harder than others, that was the message I sent to the players”, he said, guaranteeing that he was fully prepared for the enormous pressure of coaching Fla.
“The pressure is daily. Flamengo is a club that invested to win. We coaches live to win. Fans are demanding not only because they have already experienced and have been experiencing titles. It’s a natural pressure. I live focused on my work together with my staff so that we can offer all the conditions to the team to win games. I want a dominant team throughout the game, that is as close as possible to the opponent’s area and that recovers the ball quickly».
At the press conference, Paulo Sousa also praised his colleague and compatriot Jorge Jesus, the club’s former coach.
«Jorge Jesus did an extraordinary job, he has an extraordinary career. It further enriches the quality of the Portuguese coach. Several Portuguese have been winning all over the world. As of today, we will certainly be able to continue everything he has done for our club”, he concluded.
