It has now become an annual tradition: Samsung stirs at the beginning of the new year with the introduction of new smartphones. We expect a lot of news from the electronics group in the coming weeks. The company will immediately start 2022 with the introduction of the Galaxy S21 FE 5G.
Together with Belsimpel, Tweakers Partners organizes a unique test panel around the new Fan Edition of the flagship. At the time, the Galaxy S20 FE was a remarkably good choice compared to the competitors in this price range and was well reviewed by Tweakers. Are you testing whether this is also the case with the Galaxy S21 FE 5G? Sign up below in the poll.
The Fan Edition version, the Galaxy S21 FE 5G, is actually a subtly modified version of the S21 that came out in 2021. For Samsung enthusiasts who can’t wait, the Galaxy S21 FE 5G can already be ordered at Belsimpel, both as a separate device and in combination with a subscription. If you order the device no later than January 23, 2022, you will receive Galaxy Buds2 worth 149 euros as a gift.
Specifications Galaxy S21 FE 5G
The S21 FE retains the sleek and stylish design that is so characteristic of the series. The Contour-Cut frame integrates seamlessly with the camera body and has a premium look. Thanks to the slim housing of 7.9 mm, the S21 FE is handy. The dimensions of the device are 74.5×155.7×7.9mm and the weight is 177g.
Under the hood we find a lot of technology. For example, the smartphone is equipped with a Dynamic Amoled 2X screen of 6.4 inches that has a refresh rate of 120Hz. The makers promise that this will produce sharp and smooth images. With a 6.4-inch screen, the Galaxy S21 FE sits between the regular S21 and the S21+. That is a nice proposition for users who play a lot of games or who like to watch movies and series on their phone. The powerful Snapdragon 888 processor lets you quickly switch apps and navigate smoothly. The processor has a Qualcomm Kryo 680 CPU with eight cores: four Cortex-A55 cores with a maximum speed of 1.8GHz, three Cortex-A78 cores with a clock speed of 2.42GHz and a powerful Cortex-X1 core. This ‘prime’ core provides a clock speed of up to 2.84GHz in the 888-soc.
The Galaxy S21 FE 5G has a total of three camera lenses on the back: a 12-megapixel main camera, an ultra-wide-angle sensor with a resolution of 12 megapixels, and an 8-megapixel telephoto lens. In addition, we find one camera on the front for video calling or taking selfies. This camera has a resolution of 32 megapixels. Selfies should be better quality than before, thanks to the improved AI face restoration-function. With dual recording you can record what is happening in front of and behind you.
Long battery, wireless charging and PowerShare
Long battery life is a must for smartphone users today. The S21 FE is equipped with a 4500mAh battery that Samsung claims will last all day. An optional 25W super fast charger is available on request. With this, the smartphone is charged for 50 percent within half an hour. The phone is wirelessly rechargeable and the battery can be shared. Thanks to Wireless PowerShare you can use the phone to charge buds, a smartwatch or a friend’s phone.
With Samsung’s One UI 4, users can customize their smartphone experience to their liking. Start screens, icons, notifications, wallpapers, etc. can be set to your own taste. The widgets have been redesigned and upgraded to provide additional personalization options. In the privacy dashboard you will find everything about your own security and privacy in one handy place.
The smartphone, which runs on Android 12, has an IP68 certification. Making a phone call in the rain or dropping it into a (small) swimming pool should therefore not be a problem. The IP68 certificate promises that the phone is protected against splashes and raindrops, and even survives when submerged to a depth of 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.
