In recent weeks, rumors have been swirling about whether Edinson Cavani should stay at Manchester United or move on in the January window.
The Uruguayan has been linked with Barcelona, among others, and it has been reported that he is one of several dissatisfied United players after a very bad season.
Se what TV 2’s reporter thinks Ralf Rangnick will do in his first transfer window at the top!
Ralf Rangnick has been in no doubt that he wants to keep Cavani. The striker’s contract expires this summer.
– I have told him that I desperately want him to stay until the end of the season, and he knows that. He knows how much I value him and how deep and great respect I have for him, Rangnick stated before United’s loss to Wolverhampton one week ago.
At a press conference before the FA Cup match against Aston Villa on Monday night, Rangnick says that Cavani is motivated to stay at the club for the rest of the season.
– I did not tell Edi that he could not go. What I said was that if it was up to me, I wanted him to stay. I had a conversation with him in my office and we talked for half an hour. He told me he will definitely stay. He wants to stay until the end of the season and said I can trust him, says Rangnick.
– Not just because I want him to stay, but he said it to me unsolicited. He is ready to play, but if he does not play, he will also be the best role model he can for the younger players.
Cavani has struggled with injuries this season, and has only scored two goals in the Premier League. But Rangnick is happy that the veteran will be out of the season – at least.
– This is good news for us because with his experience, mentality and work ethic, he is one of those who can really be a role model for younger players.
On Saturday, Manchester United and Aston Villa will meet again in the Premier League. You can watch that match on TV 2 Sport Premiun and TV 2 Play from 18.00.
