Tijl has gone through a tough period, he says in Lake of Beau. The comedian and presenter seemed to have found happiness with his first wife Nicolette, but in the end the two went their separate ways in 2017. “I had a lot of trouble with that, it kept me awake for a long time. I lost my breath.”
–
Moreover, the divorce went against Tijl’s convictions: “I like persevering and finishing,” he says. “So if you say yes to someone and you have a family together, breaking up is like betraying everything and everyone. Put yourself first.”
–
It hurt Tijl to have to admit that things were no longer going well. He describes the moment as ‘planing an attack’ that the partner knows nothing about yet. “Because you want to do something that the other person may not be ready for or has no idea about. And that felt very bad and also very scary. Much scarier than anything I’ve done in my life.”
–
Tijl is now happy with his girlfriend Markell, with whom he has a son and a daughter. The contact with his ex and their daughters is ‘fantastic’. “The greatest happiness I actually have is that things go great. (…) That things go together. If that didn’t work, your relationship ends and you build something new later on and that clashes, that would be the rot in the foundation of everything I do.”

Tijl is, among other things, the face of the program The Traitors, the second season of which recently came to a conclusion at Videoland. Tijl had not foreseen that it would be such a great success. He explains why in the video below.

Lake of Beau can be seen every Sunday evening at 9.30 pm on RTL4. The program can also be viewed back and forward at Videoland. Next week Claudia de Breij and Ruud de Wild will visit Beau.
