With 10GB cards we are not talking about a 3070 but a 3080. Have had 1 since launch and so far I have not seen any game on my 3080 that used more than 10GB Vram, not even on 4K/ultra with RT etc. And I’ve played all sorts of things. Metro Exodus enhanced, CP2077, COD cold war, Doom Eternal (also with RT, although it’s really not worth it in that game)
Strangely enough, Halo infinite is the closest (9.88GB) while there is quite little variation in textures in multiplayer because in general 60% of the players in big team battle have the same model, only with different colors and most big team battle levels are pretty bare-bones and relatively simple.
Anyway, in your example, you can turn on DLSS on that 3070 if you want 4K and 8GB VRAM was not enough. then you will render lower internally, and your VRAM usage will also be a bit lower than native 4K. DLSS has of course always been an integral strategy of Nvidia since the 20xx series and of course that has also been taken into account in how much VRAM they stick on cards.
In addition, the 3070 was positioned primarily as a 1440P card and the 3080 as a 4K card, so that explains the VRAM difference, and MRSP price (well, unfortunately buying on MRSP in NL is not an issue, although I do hear gamers from America those things order they get it for MRSP – eventually)
