In Pakistan, leaders are ignoring the weather warning; 22 people die

At least 22 people have died in Pakistan due to heavy snowfall and traffic jams.

The mountain town of Marie, Pakistan, about 70 kilometers northeast of Islamabad, was covered in thick snow last week and hundreds of tourists rushed there to enjoy the beautiful winter views.

In just a few days, more than 100,000 tourists arrived in the city, and social media flooded photos of Marie.

But on Friday, local media reported heavy congestion, snow-covered trees and blocked roads, and the region was declared a disaster zone by the authorities on Saturday.

Pakistan’s interior minister, Sheikh Rashid, said the crisis was caused by a large influx of tourists.

About 1,000 cars were stuck in the snow on the roads and 22 people, including ten children, were killed. They are either frozen or poisoned in their cars during a traffic jam.
