Joaquin Phoenix fights for the world in a dramatic short film

Joaquin Phoenix & Extinction Rebellion partner on ‘Guardians of Life’ film

“Guardians of Life” is the name of the three-minute short film that takes place entirely in the emergency room. Doctors and OR staff try to save a person in dramatic scenes. But complications arise, the heart stops beating, attempts at resuscitation fail and finally the doctors come to terms with the patient’s death – with the exception of one protagonist, who makes one last attempt at rescue. At the end of the film, the patient turns out to be Mother Earth, who could no longer be saved due to his burning lungs – and the courageous doctor as an indigenous woman.

“The film is a call to action,” says Joaquin Phoenix of the film. “I worked on the project to raise awareness of the impact of the meat and dairy industry on climate change. We are cutting trees and burning rainforests and seeing the negative effects of these actions around the world.” Phoenix has been known for its political and social commitment for many years. Only last weekend he used his acceptance speech at the BAFTA Awards for clear criticism of racism in the film industry.

In addition to the Hollywood star, the actors also play Rosario Dawson, Matthew Modine and Oona Chaplin in “Guardians of Life” with. The film was developed by Extinction Rebellion in collaboration with the Amazon Watch organization. Directed by Shaun Monson, who received multiple awards for his animal rights documentary “Earthlings” from 2005. According to Extinction Rebellion, the clip is supposed to be the start of a series of twelve films in which all well-known Hollywood actors are to star. tt
