On Monday, primary and secondary school students can go back to school, but that does not apply to higher education. Students and teachers who also want to go back to class therefore protested on Dam Square this afternoon.

They do not feel heard by The Hague and the media and they want to change that. “Today we stand here because we reflect on the enormous collateral damage that lives among young people. There is almost no media attention, it is incredibly important that we are here,” said student Nawin Ramcharan, one of the initiators of the protest.
It is an uncertain time for the students and some fear even stricter measures. “I am here because I am afraid that there will be a 2G policy for students at universities. That you will then no longer be able to follow education without being vaccinated.”

The Monitor Mental Health and Substance Use Students showed that during the third corona wave, that of spring 2021, more than half of the students had psychological or emotional exhaustion complaints, Ramcharan also notes. “Everything is now piling up and that creates a hopeless situation for the young people.” “I am concerned about the sacrifices they have had to make and are yet to make,” says one teacher.
The demonstration on Dam Square was attended by several dozen students.
