Beware of this WhatsApp message: the Upper Bavaria North Police Headquarters warns of a perfidious scam with which as yet unknown perpetrators sneak money transfers from three cell phone users so far.

They sent the victims messages from an unknown cell phone number, pretending to be the son or daughter of the person they were writing to. In addition, the perpetrators wrote that their defective cell phone prevented them from using online banking and that they would therefore need help with financial transactions from their “relatives”.
WhatsApp fraud: “Damage cannot yet be quantified”
As the police reported, the three victims transferred up to four-digit amounts of money to German bank accounts. The account details were also communicated to them via a messenger message. “Some of the amounts transferred could be booked back, so the actual total damage cannot yet be finally quantified,” said a spokesman for the Upper Bavaria North Police Headquarters on the “Pfaffenhofen-Today” portal.
The police therefore advise you to be extremely cautious when asking for money via anonymous messages. The authorities recommend that you secure yourself before making a transfer with the alleged recipient – for example in the form of a personal telephone conversation.
