For some it’s a pain point, for others it’s a deliberately cool look. Whatever the case, bald people are still the target of ridicule. To put a heart to the balding souls, there is now ‘Bald Fest’, a festival in New York. The event will take place on September 13 on National Bald is Beautiful Day, and will include a Pitbull Impersonation Competition.

Just as all the great fashionistas are gathering in New York for Fashion Week, New York rapper Rami Even-Esh is hosting the ‘Bald Fest’. In an interview with the New York Post, he calls the festival itself “the opposite of fashion week.” He continues: “Bald Fest celebrates the things people don’t have — namely hair.” With his playful event, he wants to question the stigma surrounding baldness and praise the people who are losing their hair or have already lost it.

The festival naturally invites a few rappers, but there are also plenty of side activities that should make the day unforgettable. For example, you can do “bald room dancing”, celebrate your “bald mitzvah” or participate in “bald trivia”. Razors from bic will also be distributed throughout the day. Finally, there is also some money to be made: the person who can best imitate the bald rapper Pitbull, goes home with 50 dollars.
The first edition of Bald Fest promises to be a success, as reactions on social media are already wildly enthusiastic: «As someone who has lost her hair, this makes me SO HAPPY!!!! It’s time to normalize and embrace baldness!». Someone else feels “more comfortable expressing themselves as a bald man now” and thanks the festival.
