The Vienna State Statistics (MA 23) published the list of the most popular baby names in the federal capital in 2021.
In 2021, the most popular baby names in Vienna, according to Vienna State Statistics (MA 23), were Emilia and Leon. Mia and Lea as well as David and Maximilian follow on the other places. The latter was still in first place among the boys in 2020. With the girls, however, Emilia was able to defend the top position from the year before.

Emilia and Leon most popular in Vienna in 2021
A total of 112 Emilias saw the light of day, Mia and Lea followed with 95 and 90 mentions. The name Leon was given to 128 newborns, the first names David and Maximilian were given to 112 and 111 new citizens. In the other places there are Noah, Paul and Elias as well as Lena, Sophie and Laura.

Matteo in different spellings in first place
If you combine different spellings of a name, the picture is slightly different. Because then a name takes the lead with the boys, which does not make it into the first ten if spelled exactly: namely Matteo – or Mateo, Matheo or Mattheo. In total, 149 kids born in the previous year are called that.

Many different spellings in Sophia
The situation is similar with the girls. The variants of Sophia can be found 161 times in the list, which is enough for first place in this ranking. That was already the case in 2020. With the boys, however, the various versions of Alexander were at the top at the time.

Especially many different spellings with Mohamed
A particularly large number of spellings are shown for Mohamed, for example. There are eight different options in the statistics. This means tenth place in the list of summarized spellings, while the exact spelling for the first name from the group – namely Muhammad – is only enough for 30th place.

Incidentally, a baby is considered a “Viennese newborn” if its mother had her main residence in Vienna at the time of birth. The place of birth itself does not matter.
