The match between Montpellier and Troyes, initially scheduled for Sunday for the 20th day of Ligue 1, has been postponed due to numerous Covid-19 contaminations on the Trojan side, the Professional Football League (LFP) announced on Friday.
The Champagne club announced Thursday that it had 13 “proven” cases in its workforce. This is the third meeting of the weekend postponed for health reasons, after Angers – Saint-Etienne and Lille – Lorient. Its reprogramming date has not yet been set.
The medical protocol of the LFP allows the rescheduling of a match when one of the two teams cannot field 20 able players, including a goalkeeper, from an official list of 30 names, i.e. from 11 positive cases.
The resurgence of the pandemic, caused by the variant Omicron, more transmissible, also upset the recovery in Ligue 2, where three posters scheduled for Saturday were postponed: Caen – Niort, Dunkirk – Paris FC and Amiens – AC Ajaccio.
A test for all players 48 hours before each game
In L1, doubts have also long surrounded the holding of the poster between Bordeaux and Marseille, Friday (9 p.m.), due to a “cluster” found within the Girondin club during the end of year celebrations.
After the announcement of new government measures, the LFP adapted its medical protocol on Tuesday, which now imposes a test on all players, even vaccinated, 48 hours before each meeting, but reduced the duration of isolation for vaccinated players from 10 to 7 days, or even 5 in the event of a new negative test.
Other competitions are disrupted by the Covid-19 in Europe, with for example already 18 Premier League matches postponed in recent weeks in England, as well as the English League Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Arsenal, initially scheduled for Thursday.
