Today the Blagoevgrad District Prosecutor’s Office brought to court 32-year-old Kristina Duncheva on charges of a serious crime committed by her – murder of his own two minor children. It was carried out with special cruelty and in a particularly painful way for the victims, the state prosecution emphasized.
The accused lived on a family basis with Georgi Traikov in an apartment in Sandanski. From their relationship in 2015 their son was born – Vasil Traikov, and two years later – in 2017, daughter Ivon Traikova.
On November 19, 2020, while she was at home with her children, Kristina Duncheva took out three household knives from a cupboard in the kitchen. She took one of them and headed for the children. She first punched her 5-year-old son Vasil in the neck, and then her 3-year-old daughter Yvonne. Despite the cries of the children, who were crying out in pain and terror, she took them to the nursery and continued to stab them many times.
The emergency medical team that arrived at the scene found the children dead.
In the course of the forensic medical examinations carried out during the pre-trial proceedings, it was established that more than 30 stab wounds were inflicted on each of the children, mainly on the neck and chest.
From the conclusion of the experts on the prepared complex forensic psychiatric and psychological expertise it is established that at the time of the criminal act Duncheva was not in a state of physiological affect. She does not have a mental illness or anything other than a personality disorder – an emotionally unstable person. It is not a mental illness and cannot be equated with a prolonged disorder of consciousness within the meaning of the Penal Code. There is no medical precondition for the application of coercive medical measures against the accused.
Kristina Duncheva has developed and preserved mental fitness, and can fully participate in the phases of the criminal process. Criminal liability may be imposed on the accused.
The accused is currently being held in custody.
The court is about to schedule a preliminary hearing on the case.
