English identify rare cases bird flu which is contagious man on Thursday (6/1).
The UK Health Safety Board (UKHSA) said the individual infected with bird flu came from southwest England. The agency said the patient was in good condition and was undergoing quarantine.
“The person contracted the infection from very close and regular contact with large numbers of infected poultry kept in and around his home for long periods of time,” UKHSA said in a statement.
“All individual contacts, including those who visited the patient’s premises, have been traced and there is no evidence of spreading the infection to others,” the agency added.
UKHSA said that transmission of bird flu from birds to humans is very rare. So far, the UK has only recorded a few such cases.
London also considered the risk of transmitting bird flu to humans “very low”, but warned the public against touching sick or dead birds.
Quoted AFPThe UK alone has culled half a million birds during 2021 due to the bird flu outbreak.
Environment Minister George Eustice even reiterated last year’s bird flu outbreak to be “the largest ever” in the Western European country.
The UK government also unveiled new rules in December requiring keepers to ensure all poultry kept indoors and follow strict biological safety measures to stem the spread of the virus.
However, officials have raised concerns that wild birds migrating from mainland Europe during the winter months may carry the disease.
