Barcelona confirmed the extent of the injury that took Ronald Araujo out of this Wednesday’s match against Linares, corresponding to the 16th of the Copa del Rey. At 29 minutes he called for attention on his right hand and at halftime he was replaced by Gerard Piqué. Then he was seen in a sling on the rostrum.
As soon as he returned to Catalan territory, the Uruguayan defender was subjected to studies that confirmed the “fracture in the second and third metacarpal of the right hand,” as confirmed by the club’s health through a statement released on its official channels.
Barcelona added that the 22-year-old defender from Rivera “will undergo surgery this Friday by Dr. Xavier Mir under the supervision of the club’s medical services.” “A new statement will be provided once this intervention is over,” added the Catalans.
Araujo, who has scored two goals in 21 games played this season, will not only miss the next two games for the Uruguayan team against Paraguay and Venezuela, but will also arrive with little shooting at the March clashes against Peru and Chile, which surely define the fate of the Celeste heading to Qatar 2022.
Araujo’s injury is the same one suffered by Sergio Rochet, who last played on October 21 and returned to training on Wednesday. If there are no problems in the operation, the estimated withdrawal period ranges from one and a half to two months.
