SOE Minister Erick Thohir is conducting a study regarding the continuity of a subsidiary of PT PLN (Persero), namely PT PLN Batu Bara. Erick also did not rule out the possibility of reducing PLN’s subsidiaries.
“This (PLN Batu Bara) is one that we will review whether this company will be merged, closed or whatever, have not made that decision because we cannot make sudden decisions. This is what we are studying, and it is not impossible either, how many We also have to reduce PLN’s subsidiaries,” he said at the Ministry of SOEs, Thursday (6/1/2022).
“Because we remember, yesterday’s evidence was grateful to the directors and commissioners who were also able to suppress what is called PLN’s capex to Rp. 24 trillion, which is an extraordinary savings, then PLN’s debt fell from Rp. 500 trillion to Rp. 460 trillion if I am not mistaken,” he continued.
Erick said that the continuation of PT PLN Batu Bara was reviewed with considerations so as not to prolong the bureaucracy.
“One of them is how we also reviewed the existence of PLN Batu Bara, PT PLN Batu Bara which is a subsidiary company. Don’t let this become an extension of unnecessary bureaucracy,” he said.
Erick Thohir Calls Coal Supply Sufficient
On this occasion, Erick said that the current supply of coal for PLN is sufficient. Previously, PLN was threatened with a coal crisis.
“For me, the main task at PLN is whether the coal needs needed by PLN at this time have been met now, which were not fulfilled yesterday, now they have been fulfilled,” he said.
Although sufficient, Erick emphasized the importance of long-term planning. He did not want the coal crisis to repeat itself.
“If we are from the Ministry of SOEs, we can see from the data that PLN gave me that now the amount is sufficient but it can’t be enough continuously, or later it will be less, that’s what I said from the start that there must be a long-term plan. In this situation, we are always surprised and I have already met in January 2021 when it is repeated every year,” he explained.
