Harianjogja.com, JOGJA – Dengue fever is more common during the rainy season because the weather is humid and there are lots of puddles. This puddle of water is an ideal place for mosquitoes to lay eggs and breed.
The following are symptoms and tips to prevent the emergence of dengue fever, as quoted from Alodokter, Wednesday (5/1/2022):
In general, dengue fever is divided into two types, namely dengue fever and dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF). The difference between the two is that dengue hemorrhagic fever can trigger bleeding in the blood vessels, whereas dengue fever does not cause bleeding.
Symptoms of DHF generally appear 4-7 days after being bitten by an Aedes aegypti mosquito. After being infected with this virus, there are several symptoms of dengue fever that can appear, namely:
1. Sudden high fever
The most common symptom of dengue fever is a high fever with a body temperature of more than 40°C. This fever will last for 2-7 days. However, on the 4th or 5th day, the fever will usually subside, but the temperature may rise again the next day.
A fever that subsides is not a sign that the body has healed. The process of infection in the body is still continuing at this time.
2. Headache
In addition to having a fever, dengue hemorrhagic fever can also cause headaches, especially around the forehead. This condition can also cause pain at the back of the eye.
3. Rash around the body
A rash around the face, neck, arms, or legs will appear 2–5 days after the fever and begin to disappear after 5 days. This rash is in the form of reddish spots that are located close together, so that the surrounding normal skin looks like white patches.
4. Pain in the muscles
Patients with dengue fever can also experience pain in the muscles, bones, and joints. In certain conditions, the pain is sometimes accompanied by other symptoms, such as chills and sweating.
5. Nausea and vomiting
When experiencing dengue fever, nausea and vomiting often occur on the 2nd to 7th day. This can reduce appetite, so the body can weaken due to lack of food and nutrition intake.
In addition, the symptoms of dengue hemorrhagic fever can trigger serious complications in the form of dengue shock syndrome. If left untreated, this condition can be life threatening.
Therefore, you need to be vigilant and seek medical help as soon as possible if you experience other symptoms of dengue fever, such as:
– Bleeding gums for no reason
– Nosebleeds don’t stop
– Severe stomach pain
– Vomiting constantly
– Weak pulse
– Decreased amount of urine
– Hard to breathe
How to prevent dengue disease
Dengue fever can actually be prevented in the following ways:
