Insurance: Automobile turnover stagnates at 12 billion dirhams

According to the 2020 Acaps report

The turnover of automobile insurance, which constitutes the bulk of non-life insurance, stagnated at 12 billion dirhams in 2020, according to the latest report from the insurance sector. In terms of distribution activity, the automobile industry continues to retain the largest share. Despite an unfavorable economic situation, the turnover of the insurance sector, drained by the traditional distribution network, maintained its growth and appreciated by 1%, to 32.2 billion dirhams. This slight growth benefited more brokers and direct management offices, which saw their production grow respectively to 15.2 billion dirhams (+ 1.4%) and 6.1 billion dirhams (+ 8.2%) at the time when that of the agents shows a fall of 3.1%, to 10.8 billion dirhams. The automobile generates MAD 13.27 billion divided between agents (more than MAD 8.28 billion), direct management offices (approximately MAD 2.26 billion) and brokers (MAD 2.73 billion). Its market share reached 41.3% in terms of distribution activity linked to intermediaries and direct management offices. Globally, non-life insurance maintained its development in 2020 and recorded an increase of 2.2%, to 24.7 billion dirhams. This progress was made possible thanks to the provision of the new guarantee against the consequences of catastrophic events and the good performance of the “fire and natural elements” insurance.
