PGI Entrusts Ferdinand Hutahaean’s Legal Process to the Police

Jakarta

The Association of Churches in Indonesia (PGI) confirms the statement Ferdinand Hutahaean does not represent Christians. Regarding Ferdinand Hutahaean’s teasing reported to the police, PGI believes the legal process.

“He does not represent Christianity at all, he speaks for himself,” said Pastor Hendrik Lokra, Executive Director of the PGI Justice and Peace Commission, to reporters on Wednesday (5/1/2022).

“If it’s related to legal procedures, go ahead (the legal process). You should only make positive, soothing content,” continued Hendrik.

Ferdinand reported with Article 45 paragraph 2 juncto Article 28 paragraph 2 of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 19 of 2016 on changes to Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 11 of 2008 on ITE. In addition, Ferdinand was reported with Article 14 paragraphs 1 and 2 of the Criminal Code.

“The articles of the ITE Law are true if they are true (Ferdinand tweeting intolerant sentences), it’s not appropriate (rules), it’s just a matter of being processed by the police,” said Hendrik.

Hendrik reiterated that PGI did not support Ferdinand Hutahaean’s statement. Hendrik said that they should respect each other and celebrate differences.

“We absolutely do not support such a statement, yes. We are fellow children of the nation, in the life of religious people we must respect each other, celebrate differences as a gift from God Almighty in Indonesia,” explained Hendrik.

“This diversity is the wealth of our nation. There is no need to corner, question the differences and diversity,” added Hendrik.

Hendrik said that PGI was more focused on building a peace-loving culture. Hendrik then encouraged the development of brotherhood among the nation’s children.

“We are more focused on how to build a culture of peace in the midst of this nation. We encourage to build an essential brotherhood as fellow children of the nation,” said Hendrik.

Previously, the General Chairperson of the KNIP DPP Haris Pertama came to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police. He said he wanted to report Ferdinand Hutahaean about the joke ‘Your God is weak’.

“Our goal is to come to the Criminal Investigation Unit today, the KNPI DPP wants to report Ferdinand Hutahaean because of his Twitter, twit he’s the one who really unsettles and breaks the union and makes a lot of noise. Ferdinand is not a Pancasilaist,” explained Haris.
