the City is looking for volunteers to help the homeless

“The city of Dijon will participate for the first time in the Night of Solidarity on January 20, 2022.

The first night of solidarity was initiated in 2018 by the city of Paris. This type of operation has since spread to mainland France, with editions in several large cities such as Rennes, Metz, Grenoble, Toulouse or Montpellier, each with its own specificities.

This operation, coordinated by the Interministerial Delegation for Accommodation and Access to Housing (DIHAL) at the national level, and locally supported by the Departmental Directorate of Employment, Labor and Solidarity (DDETS) of Côte-d ‘ However, its objectives are to:

– Know the number of homeless people in the territory at a given time, the profiles of the homeless populations and their needs,

– Put in place suitable systems,

– Promote exchanges between the various players in the sector,

– Make the problems encountered by homeless people visible and encourage civic engagement in the fight against exclusion.

The operation to count the homeless consists of systematically and on foot a territory over a short period of time at night. Pairs come into contact with people who have not found an accommodation solution in order to collect information through a questionnaire.

Anxious to promote citizen participation, the city of Dijon is looking for volunteer citizens to form these pairs. The citizens will be accompanied by an employee or a volunteer from one of the partner associations of the action (SDAT, ADEFO, the Red Cross, the Federation of Solidarity Actors). These associations work daily with homeless people and will provide training on January 13 to volunteers.
