Meanwhile, Kazakh President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev is taking the post from Nazarbayev and intends to act tough.
“As the head of state and as of today, the chairman of the Security Council, I intend to act as tough as possible,” he said.
The post of secretary of the Security Council is one of several top positions remaining with Nazarbayev, who ruled Kazakhstan for 30 years, after leaving the presidency in 2019. He also holds the post of head of the party of his Nur Otan party and bears the honorary title of “Elbasy” or “father of the nation”.
