Solbakken becomes a substitute coach in HamKam

HamKam is on the hunt for a coach after losing Kjetil Rekdal to Rosenborg. But the HamKam players do not have to be afraid to show up for training on Thursday without a suitable coach in place: In the coming days, national team manager Ståle Solbakken (53) will lead the training for the newly promoted elite league club.

– Kjetil Rekdal failed the whole city, so then someone has to show up, says Ståle Solbakken with a smile to TV 2.

According to the agreement with HamKam, he will lead the training on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

– This is not a long-term project at all, is the clear message from Solbakken.

He says that he has managed the temporary job with the Norwegian Football Association. Solbakken trained HamKam from 2003 to 2005 and has since followed the club closely as a supporter, dad and even as an investor for a period.

– Have you even considered the idea that it might be possible to take the HamKam job now?

– No, no, not at all. I should actually have been in London now on an NFF job, but omikron has put an effective stop to that. So then this fit well now, says Solbakken.

The general manager of HamKam, Bent Svele, is grateful that Solbakken is showing up.

– We think this is great and are happy that we could make this happen when there was no trip to England at Ståle. At the same time, this buys us time over the weekend to put in place a coaching solution, says Svele.
