ACEHSATU.COM | Earth is one of the planets in the Solar System that has a number of features.
Has a diameter of 12,742 kilometers with 70% of its surface covered by water, Earth’s atmosphere also has just the right thickness to keep the planet warm so that living things like us can continue to live and survive.
So it is natural that Planet Earth is called special and it turns out that it is also our Solar System. Although nearly 5,000 exoplanets have been discovered, as planets outside the Solar System are known, none have yet been truly similar to Earth.
“One of the strangest things in the cosmos is probably us. Among the thousands of planets orbiting other stars, none is quite like ours. Many are the same size, but also orbit a star like the Sun? So far it’s just us,” wrote detikINET quoted from SciTech Daily, Tuesday (4/1/2021).
Super-sophisticated telescopes operated by NASA or other space agencies have not found a planet like Earth. The James Webb telescope that had just flown was far more sophisticated, but it might also be difficult to find one.
The sun is a star that is categorized as a yellow dwarf, a rare type of star that is small and stable in size. Its age is also very long, it is predicted that only 5 billion years will end its history.
Earth itself is about 4.5 billion years old and life has only emerged in the last half a billion years. Without long-lived stars, there is no life on this Earth.
The Solar System in which Earth is located is also special or unusual, for example from the arrangement of the planets. There is Jupiter, this gas giant planet has an intense gravity that can catch dangerous comets or asteroids. That’s one reason, a large asteroid hitting Earth is a very rare occurrence.
Whether this is because there are no other similar planets and Solar Systems or it has not been detected, it can’t be concluded at this time. Scientists are still guessing or waiting for the next generation of telescopes to be more capable.
“The planetary system we have discovered is nothing like our Solar System. Is it because our Solar System is different? We don’t know that yet,” NASA said.
